Aztec Showtrax & The Utah Symphony
In 2004 the very first Show Tracks we endeavored to build at Aztec Showtrax - back when we were just experimenting to see if this could be a viable business model - were Thoroughly Modern Millie, Once Upon A Mattress & Urinetown.
If you know our “Origin Story,” then you know the HUGE Burr under our saddle and the entire impetus for starting our company in the first place was our massive frustration at the LACK of a Sufficient Musical Solution for Theatre Companies and Schools all over the world to use that would include high quality musical performances to match the extraordinary theatrical performances of their cast members.
As we say over and over and over again:
“BROADWAY MUSIC IS HARD!! They’re the most challenging compositions in the history of the world for 1 reason and 1 reason only - Broadway Composers are Sadists!”
No seriously, every generation of Broadway Composer has had to compete with the Legends of the past! You don’t get to fake it with Broadway Compositions - even the simplest shows are incredibly sophisticated and difficult to play!
We didn’t want to mess around right out of the gate, so we hired an entire Studio Orchestra made up of members of The Utah Symphony!
We hired one of the Top Producers & Studios in the State of Utah and spared no expense recording these exceptional musicians while they performed some of the most challenging music ever written!
We spent over $100,000 on our first 3 shows to make sure they were perfect - over $43,000 on Thoroughly Modern Millie, over $35,000 on Once Upon A Mattress and over $26,000 on Urinetown.
As of this writing, it’s now 16 years since we recorded those first Tracks and we can honestly say that if it wasn’t for the prodigious talents of those musicians who helped us put our best foot forward with our first shows, we wouldn’t be where we are today!
Thank You to all the musicians over the years who have lent their incredible talents to Aztec Showtrax - you know who you are and you DANG SURE know that we know who you are! We couldn’t have done it without you!
